Virtual Vacation
Inspired by Kim and Jos's upcoming vacation to Austria, I took a little cyber-trip, through space and time to one of my childhood homes, courtesy of Google Earth . Here's a picture of our old neighborhood in Marsure, Italy (1983-1986, which was 3rd through 5th grade for me). Don't know if I'll ever see it in person, but the 3D satellite images match up with my memories very well. Lots of fun making forts in those woods, and what a great view of the Italian Alps!

Hey it's about time you put a new post on! I was getting ready to delete my link to your blog. :P
yeah, so much to blog about, so little time! actually, I think i've been scaring myself away a little bit... not wanting to post something unless I take the time to make it particularly witty or insightful or profound or otherwise interesting. But I guess that sort of defeats the point. So maybe you'll see a bit more here in the future! Thanks for checking in - I didn't expect to see a comment so soon! :)
Well Mark, some of the blogs that I've written and think are a bit boring get more reactions than others that I myself find particularly interesting. You never know!
Yay, great shot of Marsure!
Hi Mark: hey, great shot of Marsure, Italy, our home and 'home town' (smaller than Peru, NY)for 3 yrs.....and great idea to put on a blog like that......I immediately was able to 'flash back' to Marsure (at the base of the Dolemite Mtns which were the base of the Italian Alps.....I can 'see' in my mind (or memory) our house, our yard, our Italian neighborhood (of sorts)....the forts that you and Dan built in the woods near the house etc, and of course all the great Italian meals we had at all the local 'restauranti' in the Aviano area: DeBebbis, Mario's, Aviano Inn, San Georgio's, Spaghetti House, Tuttsi's (owner and chef was a huge guy that looked like 'Blackbeard, the Pirate' and only cooked b'b'qued ribs, chicken, and sausage, and of course, they all made great 'pattati fritti'....thanks for the great memories, Mark....Love, Dad
mmmm... you're making me hungry, Dad! Mario's: Best Pizza, calamari fritti and french fries; San Giorgio's: Best pork chops; and what about the Royal Hotel and my favorite bacon-wrapped quail!
Then there was wiener schnitzel in Austria, preztels at Oktoberfest, .... :)
Hi Mark: see? now we are all thinking 'hummy thoughts'... hey, you got a lot of responses already to a very neat blog idea......I hope that you do Duluth, San Antonio, Rantoul, the AF Academy, and of course Plattsburgh some time....
...oh, you're right: I had forgotten about the neat restaurant at the Royal Hotel (the one with all the flags and military baseball hats on the wall by the bar...(the only restuarante I can think of actually in the town of Marsure, and your 'acquired' expensive taste in 'quail'- reminded me of minature roasted chicken.....Dad
Hey Mark-o,
I'm not allowed to install Google Earth on any computer that I have access too ... any chance that you have some spare time to look up Maastricht and put a picture on for me? Than I can point out some stuff for you all - work, home, etc. Thanks, Kim
